The DCSF (Department for Children, Schools and Families) has issued two new guides to work experience and work-related learning.

You can download both from The Exchange.

The work-related learning guide - first edition

This guide brings together information for everyone, whether you're an employer, a school, a student or a parent.

It explains:

what work-related learning is, why it's important, who is involved in making it happen, how to get the best out of it, how young people are kept safe while they are doing it and where to find further information, help and support

It covers not only the two-week work experience programme, but also the new diplomas.

Quality Standard for Work Experience

Again aimed at all those involved in work experience, whether they're employers, schools, students and families or the link organisations, like The Exchange, which run the programmes

Work experience covers not only the two-week placements but also apprenticeship placements, block and extended placements and explains who has responsibility for ensuring the standards of everything from policy through review and delivery to reviewing the quality of what has been provided.
