Fantasy Shares League 2009

Your questions answered:

Who can take part?

Any Students from Year 10

Is there a limit on numbers in teams and how many teams can we submit?

Each school may enter up to six teams. Each team should be no more than five year 10 pupils

How much time is needed to prepare our entries?

You will probably need to work for at least a lesson on choosing the companies to invest in – this will need to be done at the very beginning of the spring term.

Some teams like to carry out a bit of web-based research on the market beforehand and of course it’s always great if your school has contacts in the financial services industry who might be willing to offer some advice when building your portfolios.

After this, its great fun to watch the performance of shares over the next three months – we publish a monthly league table that is sent to each school and shown on our website.

It is very easy to track prices in-between through checking out the EDP shares page and interesting to see how breaking news stories from around the world affect the market

How much does it cost to enter

£20 per team and at least one of your teams is guaranteed a place in the June Stock Market Challenge

How do I enter?

Entries are now closed for 2009 and the league will start in February 2009. But there's always 2010 - we'll be adding a new entry form for you to download when the time comes.

Meantime you can check this page for monthly results on the Fantasy Shares League from the end of February 2009

How it all works

The Exchange, in association with Larking Gowen Chartered Accountants, and the Eastern Daily Press runs the annual Fantasy Shares League for all Norfolk High Schools. It aims to broaden pupils’ awareness of financial matters, and gives an opportunity to work as part of a team.

Each month pupils are given "£50,000" to invest in companies listed in the shares pages of the EDP and at the end of each month we establish an Investor of the Month. At the end of April an overall league winner is announced.  Monthly investors of the month and league winners win prizes and appear in the press

This three month challenge runs from February 1 to the end of April each year and the best performing team from each school then goes into a day-long Stock Market Challenge Day, where they compete to see who can make the most from a day's stock trading.
