Diplomas in NorfolkDiplomas came to Norfolk in September 2008! Construction and the Built Environment *** and Creative and Media will be the first two new Diploma courses offered to Norfolk students from the start of the next school year. Around 200 students are expected to start the courses, which will be offered at GCSE and A level equivalent standards. Two clusters of schools and local colleges will collaborate to teach the new Diplomas. A key part of the Diplomas, which makes them different from GCSE and A levels, is that some of the learning will happen in the workplace and employers are already being recruited to work alongside the teachers and support the students.
The new format is designed to allow businesses to influence what is being taught and also be involved in how it is taught. Specialised work placements will offer students activities directly linked to their studies. These are just a few examples of what students could be involved in in their work placements:
