World-class apprenticeships for the future

The Government is currently working on measures to extend and strengthen the UK's apprenticeship schemes and to better integrate them with the new Diplomas.

A new National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) will be created and is expected to be fully functional by April 2009. The NAS' key tasks will be to:

  • Manage public funds for apprenticeships
  • Develop relationships with local employers
  • Promote tasters for young people still at school or college
  • Support the provision of information, advice and guidance to young people
  • Manage a national matching service for employers and would-be apprentices
  • Arrange celebrations of success

The National Network - the parent body for the country's Business-Education Exchanges including The Norfolk Exchange - has produced a summary of the Government's review on Apprenticeships and all that will be involved in strengthening them and making them moe widespread.

You can download the Network's summary here

The review was carried out jointly by the DIUS (Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills) the DCSF (Department for Children, Schools and Families, the Cabinet Office strategy unit and the LSC (Learning and Skills Council).
